Trailer Analysis

Let's analyse the TWEWY anime trailer frame by frame.

The trailer starts with Neku waking up at Scramble Crossing.

We see familiar faces passing by him. First we see Ai and Mina, secondary characters present through the game. They never interact with the main cast directly.

And also Sota and Nao, who will become players later on. They can't be seen very well but, even from a behind look, the clothing and hairstyles match.

Edit #1 - Futoshi, the tech introduced in the game during Day 3, is also passing by Neku. (Thanks to eight in the comments for pointing this out.)

It looks like there is a stylistic choice to mute the colors of the people who are alive, most likely to signify the difference of the UG and the RG and how they can't interact even if they occupy the same space. It will also help for various scenes in the anime. Since most of TWEWY happens while random passerbys are around, it would be overwhelming if the background people had color too. Having color for the UG inhabitants will be crucial to help viewers focus on what is important.

Times have changed and as we were informed from the panel, flip phones no longer exist and have been replaced by smartphones. The color of the phone of each character stays the same. Neku's purple phone displays the first mission: "Reach 104. You have 60 minutes. Fail, and face erasure. - The Reapers"

Exactly like the game, Neku feels/notices the countdown on his hand right after reading the first mission on his phone. The style of the countdown in the anime is different, almost bloody-like.

Next we see Neku waking up again. This could be Neku waking up in any of the days after day 1 of the game.

Next up, we see various locations. First, we see Center St. Entrance leading to AMX. The clothing brand "Lapin Angelique" is advertised - the logo is visible on the screen.

In the same frame, we see a reaper wall blocking entrance to Center St. Entrance. Reapers use walls to block players from entering areas they do not want them in. Walls are also used as tests through the missions.

Then a look at Shibuya Station. The location is West Exit Bus Terminal in the game. A wall is also placed here. We are in Day 2 now.

Q-Front (Q-Floor) is displaying a very cool 3D message to the players: "TIMELIMIT WITHIN 7 DAYS"

Then a frame of Shiki looking up, which is just that. She could be looking up at anything and there is nothing to signify where she is.

Beat and Rhyme are shown after that. If the anime follows the events of the game, this is not their anime introduction because Hachiko is in the background. In the game, Neku and Shiki first meet them outside Shibuya Station.

First enemy, Noise #1 Dixiefrog attacking.

Neku uses Pyrokinesis from his starter pin collection. Interesting to note, he is channeling it from his hands. In the games he starts flames on the floor and targets enemies. This is another example of game to anime transition that makes absolute sense.

Next, Neku and Shiki are forging a pact. What's interesting is that they don't seem to be forging it at Hachiko Statue. The background in the anime frame says "Sakuragicho". Are they at the station? I am confused.

Edit #2 - Mystery solved thanks to Fay in the comments. This is the "Green Frog" train carriage, which was recently moved opposite the Hachiko statue. Read more here.

Week 1 Game Master Yodai Higashizawa is shown.

End of Day 2 (although the scenes are revealed as flashbacks of what actually happened at the end of Day 2 when Neku and Shiki wake up and discuss at the start of Day 3). Neku is tricked by Uzuki, who asks him to erase Shiki. These scenes are very faithful to the game with one difference, Neku is shown to be attracting Noise around him.

Edit #3 - Neku is left-handed in the anime. See screenshots above. (Thanks to Eight in the comments for pointing this out)

More cool scenes of fighting Dixiefrogs and then a frame of Sho Minaminoto who looks to be located at Dead God's Pad.

Bit of fighting again, Kariya and Uzuki are shown. Nothing interesting to discuss here. But after that, Neku is shown for a second through a screen?? Notice the static. This, I have absolutely no idea where it is from.

Neku at Hachiko Statue (notice the red designs on the floor) is surrounded by a pack of Garage Wolves, Noise #12.

Day 3 boss, Vespertilio Canor (Noise #88) is shown at the concert stage.

Finally, Neku is using Pin #271, Thunderbolt.

These are all the details I could find in the trailer. Hope you had fun reading the analysis and If you think I missed something, comment below.

when neku wakes up you can also see futoshi the tech guy from w1d3!
anime!neku uses his left hand for psychs and holding his phone and headphones. southpaw king
the only time sho is in the dead gods pad is w1d4. where he comes ten minutes late and talks shit about the reapers and then leaves for his arts and crafts time. the background to the higashizawa shot looks similar so maybe theyre from the same scene

I was curious so I looked online to see if there was anything close to the Hachiko statue that looked like the background of the pact shot, and I'm pretty sure it's the Green Frog carriage, which is in Hachiko Square opposite the statue. I found a pretty good image of it here: grapee.jp/en/132513 . Sakuragicho is the name of a station in Yokohama so I'm guessing the train originally ran between there and Shibuya.

Neku isn’t possessed by noise in any of those scenes. Possession noise are orange. Those are just noise gathering around Neku because they are attracted to negative emotion

In the scene where neku is trying to erase shiki, mr new is shown on the ground near shiki. This subtle detail is not present in the game
